None. Advice serves you, not a reseller

A construction site at dusk. Jenga is the Swahili word for build, which is where the name comes from.

Fixed scope. Real prices. Written proposals.

Every engagement starts from a documented offer, with deliverables, timeline and exclusions on paper before any commitment. The discovery call that begins it is free.

Digital Readiness Audit

From $3,500 (USD) · fixed

A structured, written answer to "what state are our systems really in, and what should we do first?" Architecture, security posture, vendor contracts and processes, all reviewed by a senior engineer with no stake in the answer.

Included

  • Systems & architecture review
  • Security and infrastructure posture snapshot
  • Prioritised 12-month roadmap with cost bands
  • Written report + a leadership briefing session

Not included: Implementation. The audit tells you what to build; delivery is scoped separately.

Fractional CTO

From $2,000 (USD) / month · retainer

An engineer's judgment in the room every month, not a one-off. Architecture ownership, vendor and procurement oversight, hiring support and honest technical counsel for organisations that can't yet justify a full-time CTO.

Included

  • Architecture and technology-selection ownership
  • Vendor evaluation & procurement support (no reseller affiliations)
  • Technical hiring: role scoping, interviews, onboarding
  • Monthly board-ready technology report

Not included: Hands-on feature development, which routes to a delivery team (or to Handisi).

Delivery Management

From $3,000 (USD) / month · time & materials

End-to-end management of complex, multi-stakeholder technology programmes. That includes donor-funded government work, where reporting discipline and stakeholder patience decide success as much as code does.

Included

  • PRINCE2-based methodology with Agile adaptation
  • Stakeholder management across government, donor and technical teams
  • Vendor and joint-venture coordination
  • Programme reporting your funders will actually accept

Not included: Nothing hidden: engineering resources are costed transparently in the proposal.

Something that doesn't fit a box? Custom engagements from $2,000 (USD). Describe it and you'll get an honest read on whether this practice should do it at all.

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

Free, 30 minutes. Bring the problem, not a spec. You'll get an honest read on whether this practice is the right fit.

  2. 02

    Written proposal

Within two business days: scope, price, timeline and what's explicitly excluded. No commitment until you sign.

  3. 03

    The work

Weekly demos or written progress reports: working software and evidence, not status theatre.

  4. 04

    Handover

Documentation, knowledge transfer and a defined hypercare window. What's delivered outlives the engagement.

When your programme has to land in East Africa.

Programmes rarely fail on strategy. They fail on the last mile: the local entity, the government stakeholders, the reporting formats. This practice is built for that mile.

  • Locally registered

Registered in Tanzania with BRELA, the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (business name No. 612064). A real local counterpart, not a fly-in consultant.

  • Government-systems record

Ministry information systems, a national e-commerce platform, national road-costing and telecom ERP groundwork, delivered inside government stakeholder structures.

  • Donor-compliant reporting

Reporting discipline proven on programmes funded by IFAD (the International Fund for Agricultural Development) and the World Bank, in formats funders accept.

  • One accountable engineer

A single senior engineer answers for the delivery, from the first stakeholder meeting to handover. No layers between you and the person doing the work.

Engagement
Delivered as a sub-contracted partner

The challenge. Coordination across 20+ development partners and 40+ NGOs ran on fragmented spreadsheets and email. Assembling one data package for an IFAD supervision mission took roughly three days.

What was done. Herman designed and built the full system in a four-week engagement: a map-native management information system where geographic gaps are visible by default, launched pre-populated with real projects so the first user never met an empty database.

The result. Live and in daily ministry use, with three post-launch change cycles driven by real usage. At acceptance, generating an IFAD-compatible data package took under one hour.

Independent by design.

No reseller margins, no vendor kickbacks, no partner tier with any platform this practice might recommend. The recommendation you get is the one that serves you. And when the honest answer is "don't buy anything", that's the answer you'll hear.

String lines and formwork on a night site, keeping the build true to its drawings. A written proposal does the same job here, holding every engagement to its agreed scope.
Herman Kapange

The engineer who signs the proposal writes the architecture. Sits in the steering meetings. Answers for the result. That's the whole model here: no bench you never met, no juniors behind the quote. If that trade suits you, we should talk.
